Don’t let the name fool you, Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area is one of the most pristine natural areas in the Natural State. With over 550 species of plants as well as gorgeous ridgelines, wildlife, and more, you’ll see why this picture-perfect footpath is one of our favorite nature trails in Arkansas. We love everything about this nature area near Garfield, and we believe you will too. So, lace up those hiking boots because this 11-mile rugged hike will be an incredible outdoor adventure. This pretty little nature trail is an outdoor enthusiast slice of paradise and one of the most exhilarating spring hikes in Arkansas.
Tucked along the northern end of Beaver Lake near Indian Creek, you’ll find the Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area. And it’s one of the most picturesque untouched terrains in Arkansas.
Located near the town of Gateway off Highway 62, the parking area is easy to find using Google Maps directions, and the trailhead is well-defined. So, you should have no issues getting started with this hike.
At approximately 2,000 acres, there is lots of terrain for you to explore. There are ridgelines, rock formations, woodlands, and so much more.
Be advised that sections of the network of trails are quite challenging. So, proper hiking gear and trekking poles are recommended.
But you can choose to hike to the points of interest instead of trekking through the entire area. There are trails that lead to the lake, or the spring and streambed, as well as to Trimble Mountain.
We recommend exploring this trail during the Spring, where you’ll encounter lush greenery along with pretty little blooms along the way. Plus, the weather will be kinder during that time of year.
Along the way, you’ll also enjoy the 3-miles of untouched shorelines on Beaver Lake. In addition, there’s a streambed as well as a spring that flows all year long. Both are great spots to stop and relax before continuing on this rugged terrain.
And speaking of terrain, this out-and-back trail is considered challenging, so be prepared to earn your way along this rewarding hike.
And the rewards will be bountiful as you trek. You’ll encounter some of the rarest wildflowers in Arkansas...

If you’re there during the colder months, consider taking the challenging 3.4-mile trek to Trimble Mountain. At the top, you’ll be greeted with a welcoming scene overlooking the lake below.
If you love watching wildlife, then Devil’s Eyebrow will be a slice of heaven for you. Expect to see eagles nesting as well as many other species of birds. And there is no shortage of deer, turkeys, snakes, and more, that call the area home.
