Outdoor enthusiasts, get ready to rejoice as you explore Thunder Canyon Falls that's nestled inside the enchanting Ozarks near Jasper.
At only 3.3-miles long, this hike to the falls is arguably one of the dreamiest treks in Arkansas.
With a 300-foot elevation change, this out-and-back hike can be accessed from the Cecil Cove Trail in the Ponca Wilderness Area.
Though considered a moderately challenging route, I recommend hiking or water boots as well as hiking poles as there are some slick spots along with several water crossings along the way.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the pretty little spots with water features in the area.
You'll encounter flowing creeks, streams, springs, as well as tiny cascades on this dreamy trek.
Of course, they are perfect for some really cool photo opportunities. So, be sure to have your camera ready to capture some of these pretty areas.
Along the trail, there are several creek crossings. Depending on the rain, some might be covered in water, or you'll encounter the rocky creek bed.
Perhaps one of the coolest spots on the trek will be this makeshift "living room" complete with chairs overlooking the creek.
Moreover, there are lots of hidden caverns, crevices, as well as rock formations for you to explore.
At every turn, you'll be impressed by all the scenic areas on this trail. The trek along these towering bluffs is a sight to behold.
Of course, you'll want to spend extra time discovering all the cool spots on this enchanting hike.
But the highlight of the trail is the 70-foot-tall Thunder Canyon Falls. This unique natural wonder is tucked inside a 100-foot-tall slot canyon and got its name because of the thundering sounds of the rushing water.
The water plunges into a pretty little emerald pool below that is great for cooling off during the warmer months.
As you approach the falls, be extra careful, as the rocks will be extremely slippery. But rest assured that the trek is well-worth the reward.
Thunder Canyon Falls is by far one of the most enchanting hikes in Arkansas, and I can guarantee you'll want to trek this area again and again.
