When the temperatures start rising and you need to cool down, plan a visit to Bard Springs Recreation Area in the Ouachita National Forest.
The centerpiece of the recreation area is a scenic, boulder-filled stream.
With crystal clear water, it’s perfect for splashing around during the hot days of summer.
But the pristine water isn’t the only thing that makes the stream a great swim spot.
There’s also its dam, which creates a stunning waterfall.
Rivaling the beauty of natural waterfalls, the man-made cascade is about 65 feet long and 8 feet high.
There are lots of places to access the creek, but there’s no denying that the pool below the waterfall is the best place to enjoy its pristine water.
A 0.4-mile out-and-back trail winds through the recreation area, making it easy to explore.
The grounds also include several shelters for picnicking. It should be noted that the recreation area’s campground is closed due to storm damage.
However, the nearby Shady Lake and Daisy State Park offers camping.
