Beautiful views are never far away when you're in Arkansas. From the tallest mountain to below the surface, this state has plenty of good angles. Take Mt. Nebo for example. Every side of this state park is gorgeous but our favorite place for jaw-dropping views is Sunset Point. Take a photo worth a million bucks or just sit and stay awhile.
There's plenty to love during your visit to Mt. Nebo.
It's one of the oldest state parks in Arkansas and even had the first cabin rental in all of state park history. No matter if your trip lasts a week or just a few hours, you'll quickly have a new favorite park.
Address: 16728 West State Highway 155, Dardanelle, AR 72834
Sunset Point can be reached a couple of different ways, depending on how much effort you're wanting to exert.
Two trails lead to this western point of the mountain, the Bench Road Trail and the Rim Trail. We enjoy the variety and pace of the 3.5-mile Rim Trail. This family-friendly hike will take about two hours. However, if you're just wanting an easy park-and-we're-there experience you can also reach this area by car. For a map of the park, visit this page.
The views from Sunset Point are rewarding no matter the weather...
Even on cloudy days the sights are pretty stunning. Drink in the surrounding mountains and Lake Dardanelle while you're perched atop this peak.
...though nothing beats a beautiful sunset!
During summertime you'll want to plan to reach the point by about 8 pm. Sunset Point absolutely delivers for a beautiful view every evening. This area closes at 10 pm but that's still plenty of time to enjoy some early stargazing. If you're spending the night at Mt. Nebo be sure to plan a hike to Sunrise Point the next morning.
Despite our fast-paced society and endless technology, an Arkansas sunset can still draw a crowd.
Take time to reconnect with nature and reflect during your hike (or drive) to Sunset Point. For more details about the park to plan your trip, be sure to visit this site.
We would love to see your hikes, sunsets, and other Arkansas adventures in our Facebook Group, Arkansas Nature Lovers. You should join for your chance to be featured and to discover why there’s nothing better than Arkansas’ stunning nature.
This end of this month will be a particularly perfect time to plan some stargazing trips in Arkansas.
