You May Not Like These Predictions About Arkansas’s Wild Upcoming Winter

Arkansas is expected to have an unseasonably cold and stormy winter according to the Farmers' Almanac.

If there are two things we can count on, they’re the unpredictability of Arkansas weather and the good old Farmer’s Almanac. The Old Farmer’s Almanac has some predictions about the winter months here in the Natural State, and they might not be very pleasant news to hear, but it’s not likely to be surprising, either. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Arkansas’s winter is looking like a lot of "wild temperature and precipitation swings." Remember all those times we were absolutely exasperated because the temperature went from freezing cold to spring-like, then back to freezing cold again, all in a two day period? Buckle up, Arkansans, the coming winter looks like a bumpy ride.

While the long range forecast for the northeast looks like a lot of snow, here in Arkansas it appears we could see drastic temperature shifts.

If the Old Farmer’s Almanac is right, we’ll have to pay attention to the temperature to decide how to dress from day to day and from week to week.

There’s a good chance that it will be dreary, cold, and rainy, then sunny, mild, and dry or even cold, dry, and sunny, all in the same week.

Overall, the winter is predicted to be slightly cooler and rainier than average, with snow totals above or right at what we’d expect to see on an average year.

In the Natural State we can expect the coldest periods to be during the second half of December, then in early January and early February.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has a handy chart that shows predicted precipitation and temperature levels by month. The most unusual month on the chart is December, which shows very high precipitation. I don’t know if that means you can count on a white Christmas, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Though it isn’t surprising to find out that Arkansas’s winter will range from very cold to very warm, it’s not great news, either. You’re going to want to keep everything from a light sweater to a heavy coat to a pair of rain boots on hand for this wild winter.

So let’s prepare our hearts, Arkansans. At least if we’re going to have a wild and crazy winter weather experience, it’s not like it will be anything new.

As the saying goes, "if you don’t like the weather in Arkansas, wait five minutes."
