Fossil Creek Waterfall Trail in Arizona offers an easy hike to a stunning emerald lagoon, suitable for all skill levels.

Arizona's climate is about as far from tropical as it gets, but you'd be none the wiser on Fossil Creek Waterfall Trail near Pine. This easy hike leads to the most breathtaking emerald lagoon you'll ever see, and it's worth a trip no matter the season.

Please note: as of March 2021 a road leading to this trailhead is closed indefinitely, but the trail itself is open.

A mere 2.6 miles long, Fossil Creek Waterfall Trail is a hiker's paradise.

This easy, out-and-back route is suitable for all skill levels, and it leads to one of the most stunning natural wonders in Arizona.

Despite its name, the trail is almost entirely on dry land.

You'll enjoy sweeping mountain vistas at every turn, though there's only an elevation gain of less than 250 feet.

Running parallel to Fossil Creek, the loop features breathtaking waterfront views for much of its length.

Don't forget to bring a camera— picture-perfect scenes abound all along the trail.

When you finally catch a glimpse of the waterfall, you'll feel as if you've been transported to an island oasis.

It cascades ever so gracefully down a series of rock ledges, surrounded by lush greenery that adds even more to the tropical feel.

The falls spill into an emerald pool that's so clear, you can practically see right through to the bottom.

It's a little slice of Hawaii right here in Arizona.

On warm, sunny days, you'll often see families splashing around in the water.

Feel free to jump in and join the party! After all, the hike is so short that you can afford to spend a little time here.

Please note: the main road leading to the trailhead is currently closed indefinitely, but will likely open back up in the future.

There's an alternate route from Camp Verde, however, it also closes periodically. Make sure to check with the park before heading out!
