However, as with all natural pools, safety must be a priority, and you should always check water temperatures before stepping into the water.

Before visiting this unique place, you'll want to plan ahead. Despite what some of the graffiti might suggest, keep in mind that nudity is prohibited here by the Forest Service, so bring a swimsuit or extra change of clothes. Plus, always remember to leave no trace when visiting areas in nature.

Important Things To Know Before Visiting

Verde Hot Spring is located approximately 28 miles southeast of Camp Verde or 19 miles west of Strawberry. You can drive to the abandoned resort via Fossil Springs Road from Camp Verde, but be aware that this is a rough road that will require a four-wheel drive. Or, as most people do, you can opt to hike there from the Childs Dispersed Camping Area near Strawberry. Check in advance for any seasonal road closures and other restrictions.

While this is usually a quiet hiking trail in Arizona, it isn't uncommon to see others also enjoying the area. Be respectful and mindful of each other, especially during your time in the hot pools. Also, as you will need to wade across the river, be particularly cautious of the river's water levels and prepare yourself for the cold water with extra clothing, shoes, socks, and a towel.
