It’s A Tough Call But This May Just Be The Most Beautiful Area In Alaska
The Matanuska-Susitna Valley in Alaska offers stunning natural beauty and a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
Obviously, the entire state of Alaska is drop-dead gorgeous. But if we had to choose just one place, we might consider the Matanuska-Susitna Valley (Mat-Su). Take a look!
The vast beauty of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley is found just 35 miles north of Anchorage.
The valleys are nestled between three mountain ranges: the Alaskan Range, the Talkeetna Range and the Chugach Mountains (pictured here).
Two large rivers, the Susitna and the Manatusca wind their way through the valleys.
You'll also find the Matanuska Glacier in the valley.
The glacier truly is breathtaking. It's 26 miles long, 4 miles wide and visible from the Glenn Highway.
It's also one of the few glaciers in Alaska that you can easily access. You can reach the glacier by car, then take a 15 minute walk to reach it.
The 23,000 square miles of natural beauty in these valleys provides tons of recreation, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating and dog sledding.
More than 80 lakes provide some stellar fishing opportunities, and they're also a great place to paddle around and spot wildlife.
This place is pure paradise.
