If you’re looking for gorgeous, little-known overlook hikes in Alaska, you need to head out to Katmai National Park and Preserve. The Windy Creek Overlook offers a stunning panoramic view of the mountains and the creek below. Take this easy hike out, and prepare to be blown away!
Alaska isn’t short on stunning views.
From glacial valleys to the tallest mountain in North America, overlooks in Alaska will take your breath away. And so many of these amazing views are well-traveled and visited by locals and tourists alike.
But the Windy Creek Overlook in the Katmai National Park and Preserve.
This easier trail isn’t well traveled because Katmai National Park and Preserve see a fraction of the visitors each year, around 84,000, versus other, more well-known national parks like Denali National Park that host 600,000 visitors annually.
The Windy Creek Overlook and Ukak Falls Trail is a beautiful hike that’s technically easy.
It’s a 4.2-mile out-and-back trail, but it’s relatively flat. You will only climb 820 feet of elevation throughout the entire hike.
On average, it will take you just over two hours to complete.
Bring a camera, because you won’t want to forget these sights. It’s an incredible way to explore the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes without doing an entire backcountry trip.
You can access this beautiful hike by taking the bus from Brooks Camp.
Make sure to put this beautiful stroll on your itinerary for your Katmai National Park trip. Just keep your eyes on the trail, because towards the end it is not as well marked for access to the falls.
The trail is best hiked for the incredible views from June through October.
And because wildlife is strong in this area, dogs are not allowed on the trail. It’s people only on this adventure!
