This State Park In Alaska Is So Little Known, You’ll Practically Have It All To Yourself

If you’re looking for a state park in Alaska that’s off the beaten track with a low visitor rate, Chilkat State Park is the place to go! Located in Haines, Alaska, this stunner should be on your to-do list. Aside from being one of the best hidden gems in Alaska, it's a lovely place to explore the next time you’re in the Haines area.

There’s a lesser-known state park in Alaska that’s just begging to be visited.

Located in Southeast Alaska, in Haines, this gorgeous state park is only 9,837 acres. But every acre is filled with the rugged beauty that Alaska is known for.

Chilkat State Park is located seven miles south of Haines.

The steep 14% grade gravel access road is legendary, but worth the trip. And it also offers one-of-a-kind views of Rainbow Glacier.

The park was designated in 1975, and even though it offers minimal amenities, draws people in year after year.

There is a campground with 35 campsites, and a latrine and water available. Rates run at $20.00 per night per campsite.

There are three great hikes in this state park.

Seduction Pint Trail, Battery Point Trail, and Mount Riley Trail. Mount Riley Trail is the only challenging one, but the view at the top is worth the trek.

You’ll spot the Chilkat Mountains along the shore of Chilkat Inlet.

In fact, you’ll be bowled over by the incredible views all around you. Mountain ranges, glaciers, and even wildlife like whales, porpoises, and sea otters will greet you during your visit.

Spend a couple of days in Haines, and make sure you have enough time to explore Chilkat State Park.

It may be small, but it’s full of character. And you’re guaranteed to get a good dose of the local wildlife while you explore.
