Hike To The Base of Tanalian Falls Along This Stunning Alaskan Trail On Lake Clark

There are some stunning waterfall hikes in this state, and the Alaskan trail on Lake Clark will bring you to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Alaska. This easy trail will take you all the way out to Tanalian Falls in Port Alsworth. Pack a picnic, and head out on this unforgettable hike through Alaska’s wilderness.

Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is one of the most stunning places to visit in Alaska.

There’s so much to see, including volcanoes, bears, salmon runs, and more. And there’s a fun hike that starts right in Port Alsworth and takes you all the way out to Tanalian Falls.

The trailhead is located downtown and takes you up into the mountains overlooking the area.

You’ll climb around 1,197 ft in elevation gain, although it’s spread out along the trail. It’s a moderate level hike, good for those that want to stretch their legs and check out the stunning natural beauty in the area.

The trail itself is well maintained.

You’ll head through the forest, including birch groves and spruce, before heading up the hillside. The peekaboo views of the lake and nearby mountains are worth watching out for.

When you hike about three miles out, you’ll hit the impressive Tanalian Falls.

Hang out at the base of the falls, keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife, and enjoy a picnic before you head back to town. The entire hike is around 7.5 miles, out and back. If you want to spend the night, there are also some good tent site camping areas nearby.

You can also go fly fishing in the area, if you have the equipment.

Just be aware you are in bear country, and behave accordingly. Bears get the right of way to any food sources, as the fish are a critical part of their diet.

This trail is situated in the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.

It’s about a hundred miles southwest of Anchorage, and you can only get to the park by flight. But a trip out here is one amazing vacation that you’ll remember forever.
