These 9 Amazing Spots In Alaska Are Perfect To Go Fishing

Alaska offers year-round fishing with prime spots in each region for various fish species.

Alaska is the destination for multiple outdoor activities, especially fishing. Our state boasts year-round fishing, from Salmon, Trout, Halibut, Dolly Varden and Acrtic Grayling, to ice fishing when the lakes are frozen. The peak season, May-September, will have you reeling in all four major species of Salmon. With all this great angling around the state, we've decided to offer you one great spot to fish in each region. Don't forget before you head out to buy the correct fishing license. Purchase them here at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website.

1) Indian Creek | Anchorage Bowl

It's hard to find a fishing spot around Anchorage that isn't jam packed with anglers, even on Indian Creek. To find a little more seclusion keep driving on the Seward Highway to mile marker 101. Indian Creek is great for both Salmon and Dolly Varden.

2) Wosnesenski River | Kenai Peninsula Region

Right across from the tip of the Homer Spit is Wosnesenski River and Trail. The great thing about this fishing spot is that it has a little bit of everything. Located right off of China Poot Bay, the trail allows you access to both lakes and rivers, plus there is a really nice camping site along the trail for those of you who want to overnight it!

3) Lowe River | Prince William Sound Region

Just outside of Valdez in the Keystone Canyon is Lowe River. A great place to fish on this river is where Lowe and Robe river meet. There is a trail that takes you to the confluence along the Lowe river.

4) Willow Creek Confluence | Susitna River Drainage

Yes, the Willow Creek Confluence is a popular spot, but it's popular for a very good reason... it rocks. You can harvest all four major Salmon species here and it's just over an hour north of Anchorage so it would make an awesome fishing day trip.

Anywhere along the Chatanika River offers really great fishing for the interior. Just take the Steese Highway and stop along the river for a relaxing afternoon of fishing.

6) Pasagshak River | Kodiak Island

Pasagshak River on Kodiak Island is great for salmon fishing seeing as it empties right into the bay. Try all types of fishing on this 3-mile stretch of river or put in some time at Lake Rose Tead, the lake that feeds Pasagshak river.

7) Situk River | Southeast Region

A popular fly fishing destination, the Situk River runs near the town of Yakutat in Southeast Alaska. Stop anywhere along this river for some great fishing.

8) Lake Louise | Upper Copper-Susitna Region

Lake Louise is a great lake for some serious trout fishing and it is just outside of Glennallen.

9) Hess Creek | Yukon River Drainage

Hess Creek along the Dalton Highway is a great place to fish for Arctic

Grayling, Whitefish, and Northern Pike.

If you know of any other great fishing spots in Alaska, which I'm sure you do, please leave them in the comments so we can do a part two and provide you with even more awesome angling destinations!
