It's no secret that Alabama is a top hiking destination. In fact, lots of people travel from all across the U.S., and even the world, to explore our great state. While many of the Yellowhammer State's trails are quite known, several others aren't - unless of course you're a local. One of these little-known trails is yucked away inside of Dismals Canyon. Dismals Canyon is a scenic spot that's tucked away in Phil Campbell, a small North Alabama town. It's also one of the most unique destinations in the state because it's one of the few places in the world where dismalites (glowworms) live.
Covering 85 acres, Dismals Canyon is also makes for some greathiking in Alabama. However, unless you're a local, you might not be too familiar with its popular 1.5-mile trail.

The trail that meanders through Dismals Canyon will also lead you to some beautiful natural features, including waterfalls. Encountering these waterfalls is my favorite part of the trail, and they make the hike more than worth it.
