This Easy Alabama Hiking Trail Delivers Big Views for a Romantic Valentine’s Day

Clocking in at less than two miles, this steep trail leads to a beautiful overlook and it's why it's the most romantic hiking trail in Alabama.

Getting outside and going on a hike is the perfect Valentine’s Day Adventure. Hiking is such a benefit to both our minds and bodies; the hardest part is getting off the couch. There are plenty of incredible hiking trails in our state, but this one might just be the most romantic hiking trail in Alabama.

What makes a hiking trail romantic? Well, the answer will vary depending on who you ask. For me, it’s all about the view. Cheaha State Park is one of my favorite state parks in Alabama — there are so many hiking trails with beautiful views here. It’s also home to Cheaha Mountain — Alabama’s highest point.

And the award for the most romantic hike in this state park goes to the Lake Trail. While only 1.5 miles long, it’ll get your blood pumping. Even though it’s one of the shorter trails in the park, you’ll be climbing 1,000 feet in elevation! Make sure you bring your best hiking gear along for this fun and challenging trail.

The trail is fairly well-marked, and you’ll likely see others on the trail. That last quarter mile to the top takes a bit of scrambling, just take your time and encourage each other — beautiful views are waiting for you! You most likely wouldn't need an AllTrails+ account for this hike, but it's always a good idea to have the trail map on your phone.

The views at the end of the trail are just breathtaking. It’s the perfect spot to sit for a spell, take in the view, and maybe break open that heart-shaped box of chocolates to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Although the trails here close at sundown, it's a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. Plan your hike around sunset and then make dinner reservations in Oxford for a perfectly romantic day.

Of course, this isn't the only scenic trail in Cheaha State Park. If you’re looking for something short and sweet, check out the Pulpit Rock Trail (0.6 miles). If you want to challenge yourself with something longer, check out either the Cave Creek Trail (6.4 miles) or McDill Point via the Pinhoti Trail. That one is 17.4 miles, so plan accordingly! All of these hikes offer offensively beautiful views.

Once you’ve completed this romantic hiking trail in Alabama, head over to Mellow Mushroom in Oxford, AL, and grab a bite to eat! If you’re looking for a fine-dining option, you can’t beat Classic on Noble in Anniston, AL. It's been a favorite for nearly 50 years! And if you're looking for other things to do with your significant other on this romantic day, be sure to check out our itinerary planner for recommendations.
