But while most tourists tend to flock to Whitefish, Big Sky, and our other well-known cities, the locals can head to these seven spots for a quieter, more peaceful, but still amazing getaway.
Dillon is such an underrated little city. Situated in a sweeping valley not far from Bannack State Park, the city's downtown area will take you straight back to the gold rush days.
Red Lodge is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, but the town itself also happens to be fantastic. The historic Pollard Hotel is a wonderful place to stay, and there are a surprising number of tasty restaurants here.

Located in Ravalli County about 26 miles from Missoula, Stevensville is one of those places you might forget about until you visit for the weekend... and then never want to leave. Not only is it the epitome of small-town living at its finest, it's home to the historic St. Mary's Mission, which was instrumental in the founding of our state.
