Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms. Some of the best things about living in Montana are the wide open spaces and the ability to get close to nature. It’s also easy to find peace and quiet when we need some time alone. Perhaps that’s why so many celebrities have chosen to make this their home — or even their home away from home. Montana is more than 1,200 miles from Los Angeles and 2,000 miles from New York City. It’s no surprise that when it’s time to disappear for a while, the well-heeled choose Big Sky Country. The only thing we love more is hearing about celebrities from Montana. Here are some names you might recognize, though you might not know they once called a local small city or town their home.
The town of Kalispell is home to a portion of Flathead Lake, making it one of the most beautiful places in the state. While not tiny, it's certainly got charm and personality. Perhaps that's what helped iconic film star, Michelle Williams, become who she is today. Williams' family has been in Montana for generations. Her great-great-grandmother came to America from Norway via Ellis Island and made her way out West via a covered wagon. It's certainly no surprise that Michelle Williams made a name for herself.
Reggie Watts, known for his comedy, music, and acting, has seemingly done it all. He got his start in Great Falls, where he graduated from high school. Another celebrity who has left Montana behind, he still has a soft spot in his heart of it and has been interviewed speaking fondly of his time there.
While certainly not considered a true "small town," by other states' standards Missoula might be tiny. Ferguson, known for his work on "Modern Family" and a variety of other films and television shows, moved away from Missoula when he was eight. But, he's still known to speak fondly of his birthplace.
Evel Knievel was born Robert Craig Knievel and was raised by his grandparents in Butte. While he was known as an athlete in school, by the age of 13 he had stolen a motorcycle. He eventually did some time in jail, which helped him earn the daredevil persona most of us know him by. While he spent his career away from Montana, his grave can be found in Butte today.
There must be something in the water in Missoula! Carvey, another renowned comedian, also hails from the small city. Both his parents are native to Montana, which means the state runs thick in his blood. While he spends his time away from his birthplace, he's said to love the state.
Did we miss any famous people who were born here in Montana? If so, let us know in the comments! And if you’ve had any fun celebrity sightings, we’d love to hear about those as well.
