What Are The Most Iconic Restaurants In Montana?

The Murray Bar might just be the state's most famous restaurant, but these three give it a run for its money!

  • Double Front Cafe, found in the Missoula area, got its name because it originally had two front doors. While it was originally a bar and pool hall, it became a restaurant in 1933 and immediately found itself on the map thanks to some of the best fried chicken in Montana. Today it's owned by the Herndon family, and they're not messing with what works. While the chicken is the headliner, the cafe now serves a full dinner menu including burgers, sandwiches, and fried apps.
  • The Huckleberry Patch, located in the tiny town of Hungry Horse near the entrance to Glacier National Park, is one of the most unique restaurants in the state. It's equal parts cafe, bakery, and gift shop, and just about everyone leaves there with some sweet treats. Huckleberry pie, huckleberry shakes, and huckleberry jam are just some of the perfect ways to chase a meal at the cafe. The restaurant is currently closed in early 2024 due to an indoor renovation but will be back open shortly and better than ever.
  • Beargrass Bistro, located in the picturesque rural area of Lakeside, not far from Kalispell, is a true hidden gem. This rustic restaurant with a view prides itself in serving all local, scratch-made food including some amazing steaks. The atmosphere feels like you're living in an old-school western lodge, and the menu has something for everyone. The fresh fish and seafood preparations are just as delicious as the meats, and every plate looks a little like a work of art.
