8 Things That Come To Everyone’s Mind When They Think Of St. Louis
St. Louis is known for great food and great attractions. This list narrows that down to some our most iconic and well known things… things that people everywhere think of when they think of our great city. These top eight, in no particular order, are not just symbols of St. Louis, but a part of who we are.
1. The Gateway Arch
The Gateway Arch is the best symbol of St. Louis. Known all over the world as an architectural marvel and a sign of welcoming.
2. Anheuser Busch & Budweiser
Anheuser Busch is known as a beer maker in St. Louis, but their beer Budweiser is drank all over the world.
3. The Mississippi River
The Mississippi River is not just an iconic symbol of St. Louis, but the original reason people came here so long ago. Shipping up and down the river was the best and quickest way to move cargo for much of St. Louis's history.
Most of the time if someone says "Oh, Missouri" after you tell them you're from St. Louis, it is not admiration you hear. Sure, we have lots of farms and open spaces here... they're two really great things to have in your state! And, whatever the books say now about the origins of our state motto, it really just means that we want to see proof before we believe; also a good thing not to trust without proof!
5. St. Louis thin crust pizza
This super popular St. Louis, yeast-free dough invention, is showing up on menus across the country. It is the number one thing out of towners ask about, right before toasted ravioli.
6. Gooey Butter Cake
Thanks to so many food shows, our secret sweet cake has gone national. It's not for everyone and sometimes it's pronounced wrong and with extra names, but it is one of many great eats invented in St. Louis.
7. Forest Park
This huge centrally-located park is home to so many of our museums and attractions. It is a destination for those who live here and those who are just visiting. With over 1,300 acres, it is one of the largest and, of course, most beautiful parks in the country.
8. Crown Candy Kitchen
Crown Candy Kitchen has been in St. Louis since 1913, making it one of the longest operating business anywhere! They make amazing candy and a BLT so big you won't believe it is real.
These are just a few of our iconic symbols. Can you think of more great things about St. Louis? Share with us in the comments below.
