This Scenic Drive Runs Straight Through Missouri’s Ozark Mountains And It’s A Breathtaking Journey

From hiking to driving, we have so many ways to get reacquainted with Missouri. Now we have another route to explore. The Ozark Run Scenic Byway, the best scenic drive in Missouri, is the newest scenic drive, and it is bucket list-worthy.
A drive along Missouri’s newest scenic byway promises an abundance of natural beauty and the opportunity to see some of the best of the state, from its sweeping landscapes to its small towns.
The 78-mile scenic byway kicks off at Big River, not far from Washington State Park and wanders through small town towns, including Caledonia and Arcadia, until it reaches the Black River.
While you can easily drive the entire route in a single day, you might want to make it an overnight or carve out a few nights, if you want to stop and explore along the way.
The Missouri scenic drive will take you through the Saint Francois Mountains and to Caledonia, a cozy village that’s home to just 130 residents. Get out, stretch your legs, and check out the quaint shops and restaurants in the tiny town.
If you’re a history buff or just enjoy nature, stop by the Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site; the route journeys through the small town of Pilot Knob.
If you’re up for veering just a bit off of the path, as you drive near Ironton, make a detour to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. It is home to Mina Sauk Falls, the tallest waterfall in Missouri, and to the highest point in the state. You can drive to the top of the mountain for sensational views.
