After all, life moves at a hectic pace for most of us, and we sometimes forget to do the important things, like taking time out for ourselves. Any fan of literature – or Missourian – will know that the darling town of Hannibal is the boyhood home of one of America’s most beloved authors, Mark Twain.
A visit to the charming town means an obligatory stop at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, the white picket fence painted by Tom and Huck, and the Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse.
Definitely carve out enough time to visit the Mark Twain Cave Complex too, right in Hannibal, where you can join a guided tour of the cave, sip wine at Cave Hollow West Winery, and pitch a tent or park for RV for an overnight in the campground.
Sip some of the best Missouri wines, made in small batches at West Winery. Try a selection of the winery’s signature wines, such as the Smokestack White or the Signature Red, to start.
Or keep the Mark Twain theme going by sampling the offerings in the Mark Twain Tasting Series. Each features a whimsical name – the Jumping Frog, Mississippi Rolling Red, and Hometown, for example.
The campground offers both RV spots and tent sites and a slew of amenities – Wifi, showers, laundry, a playground, a walking trail, picnic tables, and a gift shop. It’s even pet-friendly.
