Housed in a building that is over 100 years old, a visit to the Old Country Store is truly an experience. The still functioning general store and restaurant has become known for serving “the best fried chicken in the world,” which is prepared by the singing cook, Mr. D.

Located in the small, unincorporated community of Lorman, the Old Country Store is situated along US 61 between Port Gibson and Natchez, just off the Natchez Trace Parkway (milepost 30, MS Hwy 552 exit).

Although remote, a visit to the restaurant would make the perfect addition to a trip along the renowned parkway, providing amazing scenery along the way. And what better way to end a relaxing drive than with a buffet of mouthwatering southern cuisine?

Step inside the Old Country Store and you’ll immediately get a whiff of the delicious food - along with some serious nostalgia, since the restaurant’s walls are lined with shelves containing all sorts of vintage items.

Head to the buffet and you’ll be equally as impressed. The famous fried chicken, which has been featured on the Food Network’s “Best Thing I Ever Ate” and included in Yahoo’s 2015 listing of the “Best Fried Chicken,” will probably be the first thing that catches your eye.

The mouthwatering chicken at the Old Country Store has been referred to as “the best” by both average diners and food critics. In particular, Alton Brown, who said the only fried chicken he’ll eat aside from his own, is fried chicken cooked by “King Arthur Davis at the Old Country Store.”

Along with the famous fried chicken, the buffet is filled with a variety of traditional southern food, including catfish, ribs, tossed salad, cucumber and tomato salad, potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, corn-on-the-cob, green beans, turnip greens, dirty rice, field peas, sweet potatoes, dressing and cornbread.

The only real complaint about the Old Country Store is that saving room for dessert is nearly impossible, but it should definitely be attempted.

Ready to get your fill of Mr. D’s famous fried chicken? The all-you-can-eat buffet is available from 10 am – 4 pm, 7 days a week.
