Everyone knows that Michigan is home to the best pasties in the country. After all, this unique and hearty dish has been enjoyed here in the Great Lakes State since Cornish immigrants brought it to the Upper Peninsula during the 19th century. If you’re crazy for pasties, here are nine places to check out in Michigan that will make your mouth water.
1. Joe’s Pasty Shop (116 W Aurora St, Ironwood)
Since 1946, Joe’s has provided diners with pasties that never fail to hit the spot. Since they’re made with only the finest and freshest ingredients, you’ll notice a little extra care in each bite of a pasty from Joe’s.
2. The Pasty Place (440 E Mitchell St, Petoskey)
This restaurant simply does pasties right. Stop in and select your choice of meat and a side. Whether you’re sitting down to dine or grabbing your lunch on the run, your taste buds will be grateful.
3. Jean Kay’s Pasties & Subs (1635 Presque Isle Ave, Marquette)
Indulge in that meat and potato-stuffed goodness with a stop at Jean Kay’s, a beloved local favorite in Marquette that serves salads and sandwiches in addition to plenty of perfectly crafted pasties.
4. Lehto’s Pasties (1983 US-2, St Ignace)
Venture over the Mackinac Bridge for one of the most famous pasty shops in the state. Lehto’s lives up to its reputation, offering perfectly crusted pasties in a family-operated environment since its opening in 1947.

6. Muldoon’s Pasties (1246 M-28, Munising)
This delightful shop is tucked away in a yellow house by the side of the highway. After you’ve indulged in one of the eatery’s incredible pasties, grab a few U.P. souvenirs from its on-site gift shop.
7. Mackinaw Pastie & Cookie Company (117 W Jamet St, Mackinaw City)
This eatery’s name says it all: stop in if you’re craving both a delectable pasty and a fresh-baked cookie. For decades, visitors to Mackinaw City have made Mackinaw Pastie & Cookie Company their last stop before heading on the the Upper Peninsula.
8. Lawry’s Pasty Shop (2381 US-41, Ishpeming)
Since 1946, Lawry’s Pasties has been a fixture in its original Ishpeming locale. The company now has a location in Marquette, but it doesn’t matter which spot you give your business to: you’ll be satisfied.
9. Barb’s Pizza & Pasties (610 S Main St, Clawson)
What better way to round off our bucket list than with the most delicious combination we can imagine: pasties AND pizza? No matter which dish you’re in the mood for, Barb’s has you covered. We’re inclined to order both.
