Hidden Hollow at Heritage Museums and Gardens is a whimsical playground for kids and families to explore nature and creativity.
When you're a kid, there's a little magic in everything. This means that when you stumble across a place filled with toadstools, giant owls and a humongous treehouse, it feels like climbing into a fairytale.
Hidden Hollow is a perfectly whimsical playground that feels like it sprung right out of an enchanted forest. Here's why you should visit this amazing spot.
Located at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, Hidden Hollow is a place for kids and families to explore nature and get creative in an absolutely beautiful setting.
The spot is nestled at the end of a shady path edged with wooden puzzle boxes.
It's actually built right into the bottom of a two-acre dry kettle hole.
Surrounded by lush plants and flowers on all sides, you'll feel like you've discovered a secret dale.
The first thing you'll see when you enter the Hollow is the amazing treehouse. It's a hideaway Peter Pan would be proud of.
The two-story wooden structure was designed and built by local carpentry students, and climbing to the top will give you an incredible view of the little valley.
The playground is composed of almost entirely natural materials, including carved wooden toys, play structures, sculptures and seating.
Children can have all sorts of fun in the playground's different whimsical sections.
There's an outdoor kitchen furnished with hand-carved wooden furniture like an oven and tiny toadstool dining set, as well as a functional water pump and plenty of buckets to fill.
Kids can also build forts out of giant Lincoln Log-style pieces and beautiful flowing fabrics.
The children will love building their own wooden homes and actually playing inside them.
Don't forget to say hello to the giant owl watching over the playground.
There are lots of opportunities to experiment with water, dig in the large sand pit, navigate log balance beams and climb the hillside on stepping stumps.
Sensory fun can also be had with the giant xylophones or in the art corner.
The playground also includes a lovely outdoor theater where puppets take the stage to entertain.
When you've finished exploring the Hidden Hollow, head up the hill to the antique carousel for unlimited free rides.
Hidden Hollow is also home to one of New England's first certified Nature Explore Classrooms, which allows kids to have positive and meaningful experiences learning experiences in the fresh air.
You can find Hidden Hollow at Heritage Museums & Gardens, 67 Grove Street, Sandwich. Kids 3-11 years old can visit the gardens and playground for $8, while adult tickets are $18. Kids 2 and under are free.
