The Story Behind This Haunted And Historic Theater In Massachusetts Will Give You Chills
The Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College is a historic and lavishly decorated theater known for its ghostly legends and impressive performances.
The Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College is one of the most lavishly decorated theaters in the state. It is also one of the oldest operational theaters in the country, which may account for its haunted reputation.

The Cutler theater was commissioned in 1903 by the son of the founder of the Jordan Marsh department stores.
The theatre has hosted everything from vaudeville shows in the 1920s, to popular movies in the 1950s.
Several spirits are said to haunt this theater, though none are thought to be malicious.
One phantom is supposedly the ghost of a local mayor who died while viewing a show at the Cutler Majestic.
No official record of such a death can be found, but this sighting is the most frequent in the theater.
There have also been reports of a married couple who befriend those seated near them, but disappear before the second act of any performance.
It is speculated that specters may be those of a couple who died in a car accident as they were leaving a performance in the 1930s.
Perhaps the spookiest spirit is that of a little girl. She supposedly accepts hidden gifts left for her in the theater, but will occasionally be heard crying just out of sight.
In addition to the phantoms of the theater, there is a particularly ghoulish spot backstage that has been dubbed “The Nightmare Room.”
Some people report feeling extremely uneasy or even short of breath while standing in this room.
If you don’t believe in ghosts, there are still plenty of reasons to visit this beautiful Boston treasure. It is the main performing arts center for the Emerson community, and you can always catch a great show.
As with any supposedly haunted spot, it's up to you to decide how seriously to take any claims of the paranormal. However, one thing is certain: the dramatic beauty and impressive atmosphere of the Cutler Majestic Theater will definitely lend your evening a bit of magic.
The theater is located at 219 Tremont Street in Boston. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday hours vary. Check out upcoming events and performances here.
