You’ll Leave Happy And Full At The Salty Owl Cafe, Hidden Inside A Tiny Maine Airport
It’s not uncommon to come across a business in Maine that has a wonderfully lovable story. In fact, some might say that the small business scene here is made up of stories like that. It takes hard-working people with drive and a love of what they do to thrive in Maine and that might be a big part of the reason that The Salty Owl Cafe is so beloved.
From the outside, The Knox County Regional Airport already looks a little bit adorable. It has a red roof and it's exactly the size that one might expect a regional Maine airport to be.
Erin and Casey Dominguez moved from New Mexico to Maine to open the cafe, sight unseen. With experience in the restaurant business, they thought they'd be getting seasonal jobs. But when the space for the cafe was available, they jumped on it.
They might just be the perfect airport food! Easy to carry away, but great to eat with a fork and knife while dining in the cafe. And they come in unique flavors such as ricotta chicken with lemony chicken, ricotta, basil and roasted summer squash with marinara and pork chile verde featuring braised pork, poblano peppers, grilled onions and potatoes with salsa verde.
The Salty Owl Cafe is open during their on-season Friday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can learn more about them on their website, or visit them on Facebook. You can reach them on 207-594-0018.
Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms.
