Outdoor lovers flock to Maine for its hearty trails and beautiful views. But, you don't need to be prepared to hike the summit of Katahdin to enjoy all the state has to offer. In fact, we've slightly altered the old photography adage, "the best camera is the one you have with you." We like to say, "the best Maine hiking trail is the one you actually choose to do!" So, if you love the outdoors, but prefer something short and sweet try this short hike in Maine. It's beautiful, fun and feels oh-so-very Maine!
Footbridge Beach makes up the middle section of Ogunquit Beach, which has been rated one of the top 25 beaches in the USA by TripAdvisor.
While the beach is wonderful, getting to the sand might be the best part.
The beach itself is connected to the parking area by a beautiful footbridge, that was recently rebuilt.
It leads over sand dunes and the Ogunquit River.
In the summer, you might find folks looking for crabs over the side and in the winter, you may just have the bridge to yourself.
The walk is short, but there's a very slight incline as you approach the beach side.
And, while it might be short you'll probably end up stopping for a bit to smell the sea air.
The route is a functional one leading directly to the beach, but it's also wonderful for those simply looking for a quintessential Maine stroll.
Check it out at the end of the day for peaceful Maine moments.
The footbridge ends at the beach, where you can walk through the sand before heading back and enjoying it all over again.
To access the footbridge, head to Foot Bridge Beach where there's a parking lot. In the summer you'll need to pay a fee, but in the winter you should be able to access it for free.
