But that's okay with us. It just means that this very snowy town can be kept a little bit of a secret.
In 2017, WCSH-6 shared their list of the snowiest places in the East, and Maine towns took up a whopping THREE places.
With a total snowfall of 96.3" by April 2017, Caribou came in second on the list, only being beaten out by Syracuse who saw 101.1"
Those who live in the area throughout the rough winter season will likely not be surprised by this news!
That same year, Caribou broke records by living an incredible 132 consecutive days with more than a foot of snow on the ground!
The previous record was 120 consecutive days with at least a foot of snow on the ground. This was measured during the winter of 1968-1969.
The streak began on November 30th and ran through April 10th.

The town can also become quite cold in the winter, which helps the snow stick around for far longer than in the southeastern cities and towns in Maine.
Snowmobiles become the main method of transportation in conditions like this.
