The Massive Fried Chicken Sandwich At Palace Diner In Maine Belongs On Your Dining Bucket List
Palace Diner in Biddeford, Maine, offers a historic dining experience with a standout fried chicken sandwich.
One of the first things we think about after waking up is the weather. And mere seconds after that we're on to determining what we'll be eating for the day. Some days it's pretty typical. But on our favorite kind of days, we're planning a trip to this spot for the best fried chicken sandwich we've ever had. Move over Popeye's! No matter how much new covered your version gets, we're always going to opt for the local one.
The Palace Diner in Biddeford has the kind of history that makes Mainers swoon.
Dating back to 1927, it's been in Biddeford since it was a textile mill town. It's housed within an old Pollard dining car and it's one of only two that exist in the world. It's been here for nearly 90 years!
Today it's owned by Greg Mitchell and Chad Conley who met while farming in Maine. They remade the diner into their own vision and re-opened the doors in March 2014.
They're open for breakfast and lunch with a menu that includes the fluffiest pancakes you've ever seen and burgers that will make your mouth water.
While we love it all, it's the fried chicken sandwich that has our heart.
The full breast of chicken is fried to perfection and topped with cabbage slaw and jalapeno.
It's served with an iceberg wedge. You know, to make sure you're eating your greens.
The sandwich is so big that it barely fits within the bun.
And the meat is so juicy, you'll need multiple napkins.
This is one of the most unique menu items at any diner you'll find. And it might just be the most delicious chicken sandwich we've ever had.
Palace Diner is open every day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can learn more about them on their website, but be sure to follow them on Facebook for special events and menu updates.
