The Harbor Fish Market is located at 9 Custom House Wharf, which has been a fish market in some capacity since the late 1800s.

It became The Harbor Fish Market back in the 1960s when it was purchased by the Alfiero family of Portland.

Originally run by two brothers, the fish market was then past to a son, who past it along to his three sons. The brothers have been running the show with some major expansions since then.

But, how did a small fish market on a working waterfront in little Portland become so big?

Easy! They not only sell fish, they know the ins and outs of what makes this the best fish. As the seafood restaurant scene began to grow, each establishment needed a way to attract their own customers.

Harbor Fish Market knew more about exotic varieties than other fish purveyors, allowing them to sell to more restaurants that came back again and again.

Today they stock fresh, local seafood like lobster, haddock, cod, and clams...

...as well as a wide variety of oysters to create you own raw bar.

They even have more rare fish, including things like Shad roe, Dorado and soft-shell crabs.

Their lobster comes straight from the back of the shop, right out of boats coming in from the harbor.

And, unlike other seafood spots in Maine Harbor Fish is open all year-long. No matter what.

In fact, you might just find it the busiest around the holiday when locals place orders and pick them up before dawn!

Harbor Fish Market is located at 9 Custom House Wharf, Portland, Maine.
