This Tiny Shop In Maine Serves Cheesesteaks To Die For
Summer in Maine often means fish – both fresh and fried – as well as the ubiquitous lobster roll. While you can’t call it a Maine summer without indulging in something freshly caught, there are a ton of foods throughout Vacationland that are worth checking out. This summer, consider branching out and trying different foods…like cheesesteak! But not just any cheesesteak. This tiny restaurant might have the best version in Maine and we bet you won’t even miss the lobster.
In a state where crustaceans reign supreme, it's a special occasion to find something as uniquely different at The 5 Spot in Portland.
Occupying an unassuming space in Portland for a little over a year, owners Keith and Rosetta have created a perfect place for customers and pop-in and grab the most authentic Philly cheesesteak this side of Massachusetts.
To order authentically, the only thing you really need to tell Keith is if you want your "wiz" (with Cheese Wiz) or "wiz wit" (Cheese Wiz with onions, too.)
Especially if it's a Super Bowl party featuring a win for The Eagles. This spot was the place to be after this year's Super Bowl! Even Patriots fans had to appreciate the hundreds of free cheesesteaks given out the day after the win.
If you're lucky you might walk away with this "Killer Colossal Club Sandwich" special.
The 5 Spot is located at 935 Congress St., Portland and they’re open from Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can call them on 207-536-1430. Follow them on Facebook for more fun and news. And, check out their review in The Bollard!
Finish your meal with something that IS a Maine summer classic: ice cream! This place has the biggest portions you’ll find and they’ve got locations all over the state.
Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms.
