This Family Restaurant In Maine Is Worth A Trip To The Country
In Maine, word of mouth is a really big way of promoting your business. Long ago before the internet, smartphones, or social media, we just had to figure out things by getting out of the house. One of the biggest and most reliable ways of learning about a new business was hearing a recommendation from a trusted friend. It still is a great way to spread the word around town and that is what has brought thousands to Big G’s Deli in Winslow, Maine.
Winslow is a little off the beaten path and most people might pass right through without even thinking twice, but Big G’s has given Mainers a destination.
The doors were first opened in 1986 and the original owner did what most Mainers do. He got up at 2:30 am and went to work. That hard work has paid off, because fast forward to today and everyone in the state knows about Big G’s.
A few things have changed over the years. They have expanded the building a couple of times but the service, food, and quality have stayed the same. You might have a new place to sit, but the same ginormous sandwiches will still be served.
These epic sandwiches are something you almost have to see to believe, they are bigger than your face. Most people can’t even finish their meal because the portions are so huge. If you want word to spread around the state quickly making these mammoth sandwiches are a great way to do that.
Regular bread just wouldn't hold all of the meat and veggies found in a Big G sandwich so they had to make their own.
Every day four pounds of dough gets put in custom-made pans and baked. Massive loaves emerge out of the oven and are sliced for every sandwich. When they make your favorite sandwich every bite will include the full flavor of every slice of meat, condiment, and vegetable.
The main attraction, of course, is the huge sandwiches, but the menu has evolved over the years.
You can arrive early and get treated to a delicious breakfast, or order some fried chicken, or the soup of the day for lunch. Don’t forget the desserts too, they have whoopie pies that are so big you might need to carry them out with two hands.
The portions at Big G’s might make you feel like you have entered some kind of Allice and Wonderland-type reality but you might want to pinch yourself because these behemoth sandwiches are the real deal.
Big G’s Deli in Winslow, Maine, is well worth the drive out of the way to get the biggest sandwiches you have ever seen. Make sure you come hungry because you will need to have an empty stomach to tackle these generous portions. For any more information please visit the Big G’s Deli website.
