10 Inexpensive Road Trip Destinations In Maine That Won’t Break The Bank
There’s nothing like hitting the open road with friends, family or even solo. We think that a road trip in Maine is even more special. With so much gorgeous scenery and plenty of places to stop along the way, we recommend taking a weekend and seeing what the state has to offer when traveling by car. While there are countless ways to enjoy journeying through the state, these are a few great things to do first. They trips and destinations are inexpensive and offer some of the best scenery you’ll find here!
1. Cellardoor Winery, Lincolnville
We love visiting Cellardoor, but the history is even better! A hobo came to the area in the early 20th century hoping to find work as well as a safe place to live. He carved the symbol that adorns their farmhouse door. The mark signaled to other travelers that the 200-year old farm was a safe, welcoming place.

2. The Only in Maine "Natural Wonders" road trip.
This is another example of how the journey can actually BE the destination. If you love what Maine offers in the way of nature, this is the trip for you. This is full of extremely cool things to see, but our favorite might be the view from the Height of Land near Rangeley!

4. Schoodic Point, Winter Harbor
Schoodic Point can be found at the southern end of Schoodic Peninsula in Winter Harbor. t just might be the best place to take in the classic pounding surf of the Maine coast, along with one of the best known features of Acadia National Park - Cadillac Mountain.

5. The Cutler Coast, Bay of Fundy
This destination is one of the most remote in Maine, which means the journey there includes rural drives and rewarding views! Plus its quiet location means plenty of opportunity to be alone with your thoughts. Or, all the snacks you brought along with you.

This lovely and quirky island has a little fairy garden hidden within. Take a stroll around the circular path and then veer into the woods when you notice the small fairy-sized structures with things like flowers, shells and small stick adorning them.

Houston Brook Falls is a little slice of paradise here in Maine. Located in Pleasant Ridge, the falls can be reached by taking a short and easy 10-minute hike through the woods.

This is a recent spot we've found and we couldn't be happier about the discovery. This beautiful park includes special plants that attract butterflies of all varieties.

You have to eat, right? When you get hungry exploring Maine, make sure you're nearby this place. The Palace Diner is the oldest restaurant in Maine, but it's received quite the makeover in the last few years.
