With so much gorgeous scenery and plenty of places to stop along the way, we recommend taking a weekend and seeing what the state has to offer when traveling by car. While there are countless ways to enjoy journeying through the state, these are a few great things to do first. We love visiting Cellardoor, but the history is even better! A hobo came to the area in the early 20th century hoping to find work as well as a safe place to live. He carved the symbol that adorns their farmhouse door. The mark signaled to other travelers that the 200-year old farm was a safe, welcoming place.

As you pass through these beautiful small towns, make sure to see one of the oldest, continually operating summer music theaters in the US, the Lakewood Theater in Madison.

Schoodic Point can be found at the southern end of Schoodic Peninsula in Winter Harbor. t just might be the best place to take in the classic pounding surf of the Maine coast, along with one of the best known features of Acadia National Park - Cadillac Mountain.

This lovely and quirky island has a little fairy garden hidden within. Take a stroll around the circular path and then veer into the woods when you notice the small fairy-sized structures with things like flowers, shells and small stick adorning them.

Houston Brook Falls is a little slice of paradise here in Maine. Located in Pleasant Ridge, the falls can be reached by taking a short and easy 10-minute hike through the woods.
