From Italian restaurants to coffee shops to small town diners, we try to experience and gather information from spots all over the state. Today, we thought it might be interesting to give you a list of the highest rated places in Maine based on another source: Open Table. We’ve used the research and polls from the online review and reservation site to create a list of the ten highest rated places to eat in Maine based on overall user ratings for this month. So, rather than my opinion, you’re getting the combined opinion of more than 400,000 people who have eaten their way through the state. Here they are, in a countdown to number one. Enjoy!
For over 10 years, Solo Bistro has been attracting folks in mid-coast Maine with dishes such as lobster risotto and a great wine bar. Their Wednesday evening prix fixe menu gets great reviews and the service is outstanding. Want a custom cocktail? Ask your server and the bar may be able to create something just for you! An eccentric, quirky vibe comes with a visit to BiBo's. Grab breakfast, lunch or dinner and you won't be disappointed. The Satanic Eggs are the stuff that deviled egg dreams are made of. Sedgley Place has been welcoming folks for their 4 (or so) seatings a day for over 20 years. The homey feel and consistency is what keeps people coming back and reviewers rave that they often come here specifically for special occasions. One of the reasons people keep coming back is a constantly evolving menu. It changes weekly, but you can always expect to find roast prime rib of beef, a fresh fish and a poultry. The York Harbor Inn has a few places to eat, but 1637 is ranked as the best. Located upstairs, the dining room has incredible ocean views, an intimate vibe and comes complete with a fun tavern bar. If you booked a stay at the Cape Arundel Inn simply because a meal at Ocean was involved, you would not be the first. Ocean gets significantly high scores for ambiance, service and the foie gras! Visit them at: 208 Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport / 207-967-2125

This place is a bit of a Portland institution, so it's no wonder it made the highest rated list. The open kitchen and dining room makes for a lively night, but of course the meal steals the show. The menu is local and changes daily, so you'll always be met with a nice variety. The cocktails are incredible and the separate bar area is a night in and of itself. Folks who have visited rave about the food, but the pickled appetizer gets special kudos. The only thing more notable seems to be the service, which is top-notch and includes interested and engaged owners who often stop to chat with customers. Gluten free? Tempo Dulu fills the void in my heart that exists as a result of heading back to the USA after eating my way through Southeast Asia. Located at the Danforth Inn, #3 on our list offers Southeast Asian cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients. A visit will provide you with the opportunity to enjoy food from places such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. The bar is also spectacular to behold. If you're looking for something different, give Tempo Dulu a try. The Jakarta cocktail gets great reviews. Order it if you love Manhattans! Visit them at: 163 Danforth Street, Portland / 207-879-8755
If you love our Maine lobster AND American food with a Latin flair, you'll want to dig into the Lobster Moqueca at Bar Harbor's, Havana. The small local restaurant gets rave reviews for both food and cocktails and has an incredible wine list as well. They're closed at the moment, but will re-open on April 13th just in time for spring. Emilitsa is great for special events. The place is always busy, which makes the fact that they stay open later than many other local restaurants a plus. Make a reservation and then try the highly rated octopus appetizer. The Greek coffee is a must-try at the close of your meal. Visit them at: 547 Congress Street, Portland / 207-221-0245
