Afternoon tea was introduced in England around 1840 by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, as she found herself longing for a mid-day snack in the afternoons. Soon, afternoon tea became a staple part of the day, evolving into a fairly fashionable, social event. The tradition still continues today, and even though it’s not a part of mainstream American culture, there’s one English-themed tea room in Louisiana where you can enjoy a spot of tea and maybe even a dainty sandwich or two.
