We're always on the hunt for funky restaurants that are worth a road trip. Rivershack Tavern in Louisiana certainly fits the bill, and it should be on everyone's bucket list. You'll feel like a member of the family from the moment you walk in, and the food will turn you into a customer for life. Let's take a closer look at this quirky little eatery.

River Road is peppered with endless historic buildings, and the Rivershack Tavern is just one of them.

The restaurant has been around since 1990, but the building dates back well over a century.

In the early 1900s, the building operated as a bar and grocery. Over the years, it’s seen many businesses come and go.

These four walls have seen it all, including a liquor store, a grocery store, a pharmacy, and several bars and restaurants. Years ago, asbestos shingles were being removed from the sides of the building when a true time capsule was discovered: perfectly preserved, vibrant, hand-painted advertisements from the 1940s!

The warm and rustic environment makes this a popular neighborhood hotspot.

It’s one of those places where you’re sure to run into somebody you know.

And they’re known for their quirky barstools.

Known as the "bar legs," these fun stools are handmade and designed to reflect people from all walks of life. From a golfer to a shrimper, you’ll see it all.

The fun continues on the menu.

Where you’ll find all sorts of tasty treats.

The Rivershack Tavern has some of the best Cajun and creole comfort food you’ll find anywhere in the state.

From fried green tomatoes to hearty gumbo and huge po'boys, they can do it all.

And the portions here are very generous.

So you better come hungry!

In addition to all your favorite Louisiana classics, you'll also find salads, burgers, and pasta dishes on the menu.

There's something for everyone!
