Located just off of Carrolton Avenue, Oak Street is peppered with dozens of art galleries, boutiques, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants.
In the late 1800s, Oak Street was the Main Street of the area--locals would do all their shopping nearby. When automobiles became more prevalent, locals had the opportunity to travel further distances, so many chose to head into downtown New Orleans for their needs. Oak Street took a bit of a hit in popularity for the first few decades of the 1900s, but like a true New Orleanian, it bounced back in the late 70s.
Known for the po’boy festival held every year in November, Oak Street has some of the tastiest cuisine you’ll find in the city. No matter what you’re craving, you’ll find it on Oak Street.
