The Bourbon Orleans Hotel in Louisiana is said to be one of the most haunted hotels in the state, and yet, its beauty far supersedes any of the claims of hauntings.

The building itself opened in 1819 as the Orleans Theatre & Ballroom, hosting the highest echelon of society for the city.

In the late 1800s, the Sisters of the Holy Family purchased the ballroom and turned it into a convent, adding an orphanage and school.

It wasn’t until the 1960s that the building became a hotel, but of course, all of that history leads to tons of ghost stories along the way.

There have been stories of ghosts dancing underneath the crystal chandelier of the ballroom, or even hiding among the draperies.

Many guests reported hearing children running around the hallways late at night, presumed to be the ghost children who lost their lives to yellow fever at the orphanage.

And while some hotels try to avoid their history, thinking it will deter people from staying, Bourbon Orleans respects and highlights it.

On Thursdays, guests are invited to take a complimentary haunted tour of the hotel with concierge and licensed tour guide, John Fitzpatrick.
