The Saint Joseph Abbey is a truly special place that will most definitely melt your heart. Here are all the details:
In 1889, a group of monks from Indiana traveled to Louisiana to establish this monastery.
Since then, it has been a beacon for Catholics in Louisiana.
The Abbey church is on the National Register of Historic Places for its amazing architecture.
Inside, visitors are amazed by the murals painted by Benedictine artist Dom Gregory de Wit.
Hundreds of visitors flock here for a tour and taste of all the Abbey has to offer.
The monastery asks that you plan your visits in advance by visiting emailing or calling their coordinator.
The grounds are also gorgeous as well, and great for a nice walk.
A snowfall a few years back gave the area a special charm.
The monks also have a honey bee program, with 20 active hives.
This produces more than 70 gallons of honey per season and is a huge hit.
Of course, worship is at the center of this place and services are offered daily.
In March 2017, the abbey suffered from severe flooding and are still recovering.
