Located in St. Mary Parish, the refuge clocks in at an impressive 9,508 acres of beautiful bottomland hardwoods with bayous and canals weaving through. Our state mammal was removed from the list of Threatened & Endangered Wildlife in 2016, and since then, the population has bounced back fairly strong, with an estimated 500-700 Louisiana black bears roaming the state.
