Established in 1840, Antoine’s is the oldest family-run restaurant in the United States.
Generations of New Orleanians have dined here for decades, and it's not uncommon for a family to have the same waiter for years.
Nestled in the heart of the French Quarter, Antoine’s is now managed by the fifth generation of the original founder, Antoine Alciatore, and this place is truly timeless.
Each of Antoine’s 14 dining rooms has an incredible history behind them.
Whether you’re looking for a venue for a private party or a celebratory meal with the family, this is the perfect spot.
Some of the rooms are named after Carnival Krewes, some are named for the decor in the room, like the 1840s room.
Several rooms are adorned with framed photos from the restaurant's past, as well as photos of celebrities and historical figures that have dined here.
The Mystery Room is quite fascinating.
During the Prohibition era when alcohol was banned, you used to be able to go through a secret door located in the women’s restroom and enter another room where you could get a coffee cup full of alcohol. If you were asked where you received this contraband, the standard response was, "It’s a mystery to me."
Their wine cellar is truly impressive.
Measuring 165 feet long and 7 feet wide, this impressive space can hold roughly 25,000 bottles when fully stocked. There’s a window on Royal Street that you can peek in to view it.
Antoine’s is known for many things, one of which is their Oysters Rockefeller.
This New Orleans classic was created right here at this very restaurant by Antoine’s son Jules in 1889. While many have tried to imitate this iconic dish, the recipe is a closely-guarded secret.
