Along the banks of the Salt River in Shepherdsville is a hidden gem for summer fun. The family-run Awesome Lazy River is perfectly named as it provides an awesome experience, at a delightfully lazy pace, and is a great spot for tubing in Kentucky.

When you arrive at the parking lot, you'll choose which raft you'd like and then you can take your time loading up and entering the river. They offer single tubes for $15, double tubes for $30 and cooler floats for $5. The pricing for these larger floats was not available. Visitors have raved about the customer service, so feel free to ask about any questions or concerns!

The "ride" takes about two hours if you allow yourself to float at a leisurely pace. Of course, nature dictates the current and conditions of the river, but most people say the two hour timeframe is pretty accurate. When you get to the end of the route, you'll board a bus that will take you back to your car. You can then go again if you like, as your rental is good for the day.

Many Kentucky rivers are scenic and offer decent swimming spots, and this is no exception. Along the route, be sure to pull over for a rope swing or two. You can also pack a picnic for a midway stop or choose to stop and cool off with a swim.

The Awesome Lazy River can accommodate large groups - no reservations necessary! They are open Saturdays and Sundays mid-May through Labor Day weekend, from 10am to 5pm. You have to be off the river by 7pm. They also recommend wearing tennis shoes or water shoes during the float and no glass is allowed.
