I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Summer in Kentucky is the most splendid season — it’s hot and hazy, balmy and beautiful, and just perfect for enjoying the state’s many lakes, rivers, beaches, and parks. There’s simply nothing better than spending a hot summer’s day in Kentucky on the water, and there are certain places we find ourselves returning to again and again. Grayson Lake is one such place. This Kentucky State Park is an underrated gem, boasting incredible water recreation, pristine grounds, lots of amenities, and some of the most beautiful and unique scenery you’ll find in the Bluegrass State.
Grayson Lake State Park is 1,512 acres of pure Bluegrass beauty. The park is located between Lexington and the West Virginia border, in a resplendent region of Kentucky.
For explorers, there are two marked trails within the park: The Beech Hemlock Trail (.8 mile) and the Lick Falls Overlook Trail (3 miles). Both are family friendly and make for fun day treks.
A popular place to camp, Grayson Lake's 71-site campground is picture-perfect in every way, and includes amenities such as utility hookups, laundry facilities, and showers.
The main feature of the park is, of course, its namesake: Grayson Lake. This winding body of water passes through the park and provides a natural playground, ready for exploring.
Canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, and kayaking are also very popular on Grayson Lake, as its sandstone canyons and verdant foliage make for an incredibly scenic trip.
Grayson Lake State Park is truly one of the most amazing places in Kentucky; an underrated gem you must explore this summer! Learn more and plan your adventure by visiting the Kentucky State Parks website.
