A Winter Getaway To Kansas’s Snowiest Town Is Nothing Short Of Magical
Winter in Kansas can get quite cold. We may not have quite as much snow as some other areas of the country, but there are plenty of snowy areas to check out if you’re looking for a white winter! One of the snowiest parts of the state that’s perfect for a winter day trip in Kansas is the area around Rawlins County up in the northwest area, near Colorado. This is one of the coldest parts of the state and it’s especially magnificent in the wintertime. This is the quintessentially rural, prairie-filled part of the Sunflower State that’s so magical when it’s snowy out!
If you want to get technical, the city weather station that's averaged the most snow in Kansas between 1985-2015 is McDonald.
McDonald is a rural town with a population of just over 100. It's home to the McDonald Grocery. This is a great old-fashioned grocery store with a deli that's one of the few places to eat out in this small town.
McDonald Grocery And Restaurant, 202 Rawlins Ave, McDonald, KS 67745, USA
McDonald's annual snowfall between 1985 and 2015 was 37.6 inches, considerably higher than the state average of about 19 inches.
Rawlins County's entire population is only about 2,500. This place is pretty rural and is the type of town many out-of-state visitors imagine when they think of Kansas.
However, there are plenty of things to do in this charming area, no matter when you visit. Big Ed's Steakhouse in Bird City serves up delicious steaks in a friendly small-town joint.
Have you ever visited the Rawlins County area in the winter? What’s your favorite getaway during winter in Kansas? Curious about what to pack on your winter trip in Kansas? We can help!
