11 Restaurants In Kansas That Are Hard To Get In… But Totally Worth It
Trust me, I get it: There is nothing in this world more frustrating than going to a restaurant when you’re starving and having to wait long periods of time to eat…However, the food and ambiance of these 11 Kansas restaurants will make it worth your time. (But word to the wise; reserve a table ahead of time so you’re not waiting in the cold!)
1. Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que (Kansas City)
It shouldn't come as a surprise that a KC BBQ joint tops our list. Don't let the long lines scare you; it's worth the wait for just a taste of Joe's mouthwatering meats and sauces.
2. Ty's Diner (Wichita)
Do you think that if you've tried one burger, you've tried them all? If so, you obviously haven't tried Ty's, which has been serving up food (and long wait times) for nearly 60 years!
3. Cassoday Cafe (Cassoday)
No food pictures for Cassoday's, but don't let that stop you from sampling their fare! Word to the wise: if you hate to wait, avoid visiting the first Sunday of each month, when hundreds of motorcyclists stop in for the hearty buffet.
4. Prairie Nut Hut (Altoona)
Regulars know to get to the Prairie Nut Hut (which was named one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Cuisine) early; the small, but popular restaurant seats only 40.
5. Roy's Hickory Pit BBQ (Hutchinson)
Are you surprised to see another BBQ joint on the list? I didn't think so! I have been told by a good friend from Hutch that the food is good enough to get up and wait in line for every Saturday morning.
6. Stroud's Restaurant & Bar (Fairway)
What will it be? Pan-fried chicken? Cheeseburger? Chicken noodle soup? No matter what you decide, it's guaranteed to be worth any wait you endure!
7. Bunker Hill Cafe (Bunker Hill)
Be sure to call ahead to make your reservation; the Cafe only has 12 tables and you do NOT want to miss out on what one Yelper calls "the best catfish north of New Orleans!"
8. Gella's Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. (Hays)
With their yummy microbrews and German food, it's no wonder Gella's is a "hopping" place over the weekend!
9. Milton's Café (Lawrence)
Let's just say there's a reason the line is always long at Milton's... RE: Fantastic service, food, and ambiance.
10. Sommerset Hall Cafe (Dover)
No wait time is too long when you're talking about Norma's world famous coconut cream pie...
11. Brookville Hotel (Abilene)
Since the Brookville is only open for a few hours at a time on certain days, there's always a mad rush to get this homemade, family-style meal. Fortunately, the Hotel has plenty to look at and shop for, which makes the wait seem less.
