This Unique Rail Biking Experience In Iowa Belongs On Your Bucket List

The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and Museum has long been one of Iowa’s most unique experiences, and the popular family destination is adding another gem to its repertoire. Starting in late July 2022, you won’t just be able to ride the rails on the old-fashioned steam train – you can ride them low to the ground on a unique rail bike! Rail biking has become one of the most popular new activities, and well-known rail biking company Rail Explorers USA is expanding to Iowa for the first time. So hop aboard for a unique adventure on the rails!

The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and Museum has been thrilling visitors for years, offering a large museum and gift shop about railroad history.

Its star attraction is a scenic steam train ride across Iowa's oldest and most beautiful railroad tracks.

But soon, you'll be able to see the rails over Boone in a completely new way - on a rail bike!

Rail Explorers USA is bringing their unique reclining two-person bikes to Iowa for the first time, and the attraction opens July 21st.

The cars go over the same tracks as trains used to, during the hours when Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad isn't running any excursions.

The bikes are easy to pedal and well-suited for all ages and skill levels - so it's a perfect family adventure!

During the fall, you can take an amazing tour of the fall foliage across the Iowa countryside.

You might even be able to take a nighttime trip across the rails, although offerings will vary per location. Stay tuned to head off on your own railroad adventure!
