Malanaphy Springs Preserve is a lovely area just about 5 miles north of Decorah. Just off of Bluffton Road and along the Upper Iowa River, this preserve offers a wonderful respite to visitors.
The Malanaphy Falls Trail is a 1.8-mile out-and-back hike. It is moderately trafficked, so there is a good chance you may only see a few other hikers during your visit. Some visitors have noted that the trail can get muddy at times, so be sure to check the weather and wear some good hiking or rain boots.
The hike's showstopper is the beautiful waterfall that feeds into the Upper Iowa River. The sound of the falls with the surrounding mossy grounds makes for a serene hiking experience. Be sure to stop at the falls and really soak in the natural beauty.
