Indiana is home to a hidden castle on Mount Metamora that few people know about.
When you think of castles, Indiana is probably one of the last places that pops into your head. Here in the Hoosier state, however, we have an abundance of castles and palace-like buildings that are simply astounding. There's one hidden castle in particular, though, hidden away on Mount Metamora, that almost no one in the state knows anything about.
Metamora is a tiny town in Indiana best known for its canal. This little town offers quaint festivals, horse drawn canal rides, and is a tourist train destination from Connersville. However, few people realize this little town is home to a hidden castle.
Referred to by locals as "The Castle on the Hill", this palace is located on Mount Metamora is a little known hidden gem that's easy to miss.
This mysterious castle is rumored to be a church, though it's unclear if it's open to the public. The incredible medieval design and structure make this building a compelling sight. You can find this castle one mile west of Metamora on U.S. 52.
Whatever the origin story, it's fascinating to learn there's been a castle hiding in the small town of Metamora for years.
