Most people have never even heard of a wake park, but there's one in the city of Rockford that is about to become everyone's new favorite outdoor water attraction. This simple yet adrenaline-inducing lake activity is fun for Illinoisans of any age.
It's that time of year when we can finally get back outside and enjoy nature, and for water lovers, this is the best way to do it. Check it out:
West Rock Wake Park is situated in Rockford at Levings Park on the southwest side of the city. This is one aquatic adventure you definitely don't want to miss.
There's no boat needed to waterski or wakeboard here. Guests catch "waves" and maneuver around the lake using an assortment of cables. You may bring your own equipment but everything you need can also be bought or rented on-site.
This is the perfect place for riders of all skill levels to practice their moves and enjoy speeding around the lake. The only stipulation is that participants must be at least 7 years of age.
According to West Rock Wake Park's website, the oldest guest to date was 78 years old!
Even if you've never waterskied or wakeboarded before, you can still fuel your interest. Beginners can book a learning session through the park's website (see link below).
Of course, advanced riders are also welcome. This wake park is open May through October as weather permits, and hours vary, so we suggest checking West Rock's Facebook page (see link below) for current times of operation.
Passes for this exciting activity cost $30 for two hours or $50 for a day pass. You can pay less if you bring your own board, and wetsuit and wakeskate rentals are also available.
Additional fun things to do here include spending time on the sand volleyball and basketball courts, fishing, grilling, and more.
West Rock Lake Park is located at 1420 S Pierpont Ave., Rockford, IL 61102, and you can learn more on its website or Facebook page.
