Superdawg Is A Tiny, Old School Drive-In That Might Be One Of The Best Kept Secrets In Illinois
For those who have always wanted to eat at a restaurant where two larger-than-life humanoid hotdogs, dressed as a strongman and a ballerina, respectively, stare down at patrons from the rooftop, Superdawg is the spot to check out (and really, who hasn’t dreamt of that?). They’ve been slingin’ dogs in Chicago since 1948, and remain a local favorite to this day.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

In 1948, it was just 32 cents for a Superdawg and a drink, making it a popular stop for kids and families.

Some fan-favorites are the Superonionchips (“chip-shaped chunks of battered onions”), Superveggies (battered vegetables), and Superfries (crinkle-cut, so you know they’re good).

This way, visitors don’t have to leave the comfort of their vehicles, and they get to dine with the giant hot dog statues on the roof.

The new Superdawg is modeled after the first, and serves up the same tried-and-true food that makes people so happy.
The original Superdawg, along with its anthropomorphic hot dog mascots, is located at 6363 N Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. It’s a true piece of classic Americana, and a must-visit for anyone traveling through the area.
