The Prairie State is full of gorgeous scenery from its parks to its lakes, rivers, countryside, and botanical gardens. If you’re in need of a visit to a place that’s downright heavenly and full of scenery, you’ll love exploring The Morton Arboretum in Illinois.
Morton Arboretum is a 1,700-acre botanical garden heavily focused on trees, science, education, and conservation. It was founded in 1922 by Joy Morton, the founder of Morton Salt Company. His father, J. Sterling Morton, founded Arbor Day.
Open from 7 a.m. until sunset 365 days a year, Morton Arboretum is a heavenly place to explore no matter what time of year. Each season brings with it something special.
In spring and summer, you'll be able to see the gardens and wildflowers in full bloom. From mid-April through late May, there are areas where you can see Virginia bluebells in bloom among the trees and it's an extraordinary sight.
There are 16 miles of hiking trails to explore the property by foot. If you prefer the comfort of a vehicle or bike, there are nine miles of roads that will lead you through incredible scenery.
